Conference: Literary Adelaide

Literary Adelaide: ASAL mini-conference

University of Adelaide, Friday 10 February 2012

Writers have seen Adelaide as the Athens of the South and also as a perfect place to set a horror story, a place where things go bump in the night. This one-day conference examines all aspects of Adelaide as a literary city, past and present. Possible areas for papers include:

· Literary representations of Adelaide

· Writers and readers in Adelaide

· Literary visitors

· Writers’ week

· The Jindyworobaks

· Ern Malley

· Friendly Street Poets

· Literary studies in Adelaide

· Libraries and booksellers

· Reading groups

· Creative Writing Courses

· Anything else that could be connected to the theme of literary Adelaide

The keynote speaker will be Kerryn Goldsworthy, whose Adelaide is about to be published by New South.

Abstracts (200 words) for twenty-minute papers are due by Friday 18 November 2011.

Abstracts and enquiries should be directed to

Association for the Study of Australian Literature
