A musical collaboration
Monash University today announced a new partnership with Chamber Music Australia, reflecting its leadership role in classical music education.
Monash University’s School of Music and Chamber Music Australia will collaborate on a range of recitals, masterclasses and events including the 6th Melbourne International Music Competition commencing 9 July 2011.
Dr Peter Tregear, Executive Director, Monash Academy of Performing Arts said the partnership acknowledges Monash University’s ongoing commitment to supporting cultural activities at its campuses.
“A rich cultural life can contribute to both academic quality and the learning experience of our students.
“This partnership is part of a major project to incorporate public cultural and intellectual life into our communities, both inside and outside the university campuses,” said Dr Tregear.
The partnership will focus on education, providing opportunities for students of the Monash School of Music as well as students from other faculties interested in learning from Chamber Music Australia’s award winning instrumentalists.
Ben Woodroffe, General Manager, Chamber Music Australia explained that the organisation aims to inspire young Australian musicians to pursue a career in chamber music on the world stage.
“Chamber Music Australia's partnership with Monash University’s School of Music represents a significant milestone in our ever-expanding vision,” said Mr Woodroffe.
Robert Burke, Head of the School of Music, said Monash University is a place where students, staff and the wider community can experience, enjoy and reflect upon the traditions and practices that create and sustain our cultural life.
“By partnering with Chamber Music Australia, students and visitors can participate in a creative cultural program featuring some of the greatest classical music performers, enhancing our cultural imprint on the local community,” said Mr Burke.
Held every four years, the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition is one of the most highly regarded classical music competitions running from 9-17 July. The Monash University Grand Prize will be announced 17 July at 7.30pm at the final concert held in the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
